Does it look like you're missing a member of your team? In this article we'll walk through some steps on how to resolve this issue.

Potential Causes

  1. Not Considering Username

  2. Search Miss

  3. Missing a Repository

  4. New Member with No Activity

  5. Data Still Processing

How do we fix it?

Not Considering Username?

If a member of your team does not have their 'Name' set on their github profile, then Haystack will default to their github username. In this case, searching for "Tom Jones" wouldn't produce a result but searching for their username "awesomedevguy" would work just fine.

Takeaway: Try searching for the member's username instead of name

Search Miss?

Haystack searches uses the 'begins with' logic to search through members rather than 'contains'. In this case, your search results may not resemble what you're looking for.

Takeaway: Try searching using 'begins with' logic

Missing a Repository?

If you've tried the above steps then it may be this user is not in our system. This can be for a few reasons. The most common reason for this is missing a repository. If the developer works on a particular repository that is not included in Haystack, then they would not appear in our system.

Takeaway: Double check all your repositories are imported.

New Member with No Activity

Imported all your repositories and still not seeing the member? Is this member new to the team? Haystack only includes active members. If the member has not created a new pull request in the past 6 months then they will not be included in our system.

Takeaway: New members must create at least one pull request to appear in Haystack.

Data Still Processing

If you've gone through all the above steps then it's likely our system is still processing your information. In this case it may take a few hours to pull your entire list of team members.

Takeaway: Wait for our system to finish processing your data.
